About BOSTIK FLASH BOND
91 000 74051 Bostik Flashband A heavy-duty, self-adhesive, resin-modified bituminous flashing tape. It features a lead-grey finish and requires no separate adhesive. It is supplied in a roll with a removable protective release backing.
Primary Function: To provide a quick, easy, and effective method for creating strong, tear-resistant, and watertight seals on roofs and other building surfaces. It is used for both new construction and emergency repairs.
Key Features & Benefits (from TDS):
Self-Adhesive: Bonds instantly with hand pressure; no special tools or equipment needed.
Watertight Seal: Forms a durable, waterproof barrier upon application.
Excellent Flexibility: Remains flexible at low temperatures (-10C) and resists flow at high temperatures (up to +100C).
Versatile Bonding: Adheres to most common building materials, including brick, masonry, concrete, wood, metal, slates, tiles, and roofing felt.
Easy to Use: Can be cut to size and applied with a seam roller for a secure fit.
Q1: What surfaces does Bostik Flashband stick to?
A: It bonds to most building materials, including brick, masonry, concrete, wood, metal, slates, roof tiles, terracotta, roofing felt, and rigid plastics. The surface must be clean, dry, and sound.
Q2: How do I apply it correctly?
A:
Prepare Surface: Ensure the surface is clean, dry, and free from grease, dirt, and loose materials.
Prime if Needed: On porous, rough, dusty, or cold surfaces (<15C), use Bostik Flashband Primer for better adhesion.
Cut & Position: Cut to length, remove a small section of the release backing, and position the tape.
Press & Roll: Firmly press into place and use a seam roller to smooth out the tape, ensuring full contact and expelling any air bubbles.
Overlap: Overlap adjacent strips by a minimum of 25mm for a watertight seal.
Q3: Can it be used in cold weather?
A: Yes, but with precautions. The substrate temperature must be between +5C to +30C. In cold weather, it is recommended to warm both the surface and the Flashband roll overnight before application to improve adhesion.
Q4: Does it require a primer?
A: It is mandatory on porous, rough, or dusty surfaces, and highly recommended in cold weather. Do not leave the primer applied for more than 24 hours before applying the tape.
Q5: What is the temperature resistance?
A: It can withstand temperatures from -10C to +100C, depending on operating conditions.
Q6: Can it be painted over?
A: Yes, it can be over-painted with conventional decorative paints. However, staining may occur at the edges, so it is advised to test a small area first for compatibility.
Q7: What is the shelf life?
A: The shelf life is 24 months from the date of manufacture when stored in its original, unopened packaging in a cool, dry place (+5C to +25C), out of direct sunlight and protected from frost.
Q8: What are its limitations?
A:
It is not for use on polycarbonate or acrylic glazing.
It must not come into contact with silicone sealants, flexible PVC, or vinyl.
Avoid contact with acidic, alkaline materials, solvents, and oils.
It is not designed to withstand vehicular traffic or regular foot traffic.
It may become brittle if enclosed in cementitious material (e.g., concrete or mortar).
